Season 2024...for testing my VAWT prototype is over.
Few weeks ago I went to test as the prognosis was 6 m/s wind.
I missed it as it took longer to erect than I remembered and all parts were new etc...terrifying stress too. I also missed intented ferry etc.
So as I got it up the wind was almost calm. So I remember saying calm before the storm...but as there was no storm in prognosis...I decided to stay in the Island over the night as at 04:00 am was 9 m/s prognosed from profitable direction.
Little did I know...at 10-11 pm was storm...and pitch black night started already at 18:00 here now. It was raining two hours straight...but what was almost biblical was exceptional flood...as the wing was 24 m/s from south....but turned suddenly to west...this capsized my turbine.
Suddenly I was in deep $#|+ as I went to see the tower after midnight. The electrical tower electrical cables were loose and the system in a pool of water...one of the spikes flown away and whole turbine 90 degs ...in horizontal...but luckily slightly on higher ground than the tools and the electrical tower.
I decided to save the electrical tower first as it had the new watt meter. I took it to the car...and dried it up.
I only had one head lamp on me and couldn't work out the intact tower into pieces to be carried to the car.
Next I took the tools from the sea. I also tied the tower to a line that I used in rising the tower...so that it would not drift to Sweden ( on the other side of the pond ).
I was really freaked out and wet...so I had go home. I went back home to get coffeee food and dry clothes and boots and by this time the storm had risen to a real storm with 26 m/s wind speeds. And the tower was no longer fully in tact both winglets from the other blade were gone and some brackets broken.
I had to decide what to do as there was water still 30 cm all over so I took of the moment arm with blades and in horrifying wind speed carried this fallen angel to the cover of trees. Next I took the legs apart from the hub...thinking that I was on a on a sailboat deck in a hurricane ( I actually have been in 28 m/s )...resqueing what was to resque.
I had to take loose some items using a 4 kg hammer...as the brackets were partially wood composite and swollen. So I saved time but I knew this will be hard to fix later.
Well I fixed it in a week and went again this time I did catch 4-6 m/s wind and clocked even 65 watts out of the system, but not everything was OK.
The mechanism was acting weirdly...and I tried to fix it creating a tool in Apollo 13 manner ( of what I had available ). I managed to do what I intended but the wind died again. I got few videos showing it was very steady and everything upright like it should be.
I made another third this attempt into a higher wind but after 2 hours of running in 5-7 m/s wind it somehow broke..as one of the brackets gave away. It was a nasty cut...all ball bearings with axle torn loose and huge hole in the blade under side and bruises...also the moment arm was slightly broken and my mechanism. I clocked over 90 watts at best...but system was again acting weirdly. It did once indicate 120 rpm ( maybe more ). So after dismantling it I opened it up at home and have spent now 5 day fixing it...with 4 new fixes.
Unfortunately there is snow on the ground and I haven't figured out how to make it work in snowy ground....yet....maybe a log foundation..rocks on top of it ?
Picture before the storm in still calm windless ( 0-4 m/s ) weather. Slightly rotating...thence the blurry pic.
Sun nimi on tiedossa.

Sun nimi on tiedossa.. Korkeintaan rikkoo tuon foorumin sääntöjä, jos viestit on vain rekisteröityneille näkyviä
Myös valehtelusta täällä.

Ihan julkinen foorumihan tuo tuntuu olevan.
